Bear Grylls

"The Kid who Climbed Everest"

Bear Grylls's story remains one of the most remarkable adventures in Mt. Everest's history. When he was 21, Bear Grylls nearly died in a parachuting accident over Nigeria while in the British Special Forces. After compressing four vertebrae on impact after his 16,000 foot fall from a helicopter, Bear recovered 18 months later to tackle the world's highest mountain. What's more remarkable? At the time of his ascent, he became the youngest Briton to ever conquer Everest. Although this record has since been broken, Bear Grylls's incredible circumstances make his climb one of the most noteworthy in the modern climbing era.

Erik Weihenmeyer

Everest's First Blind Ascent

On May 25, 2001, Erik Weihenmeyer became the first blind man to reach the summit of Mt. Everest. Before his ascent, Weihenmeyer was a skilled marathon runner, triathlete, climber, and skier.
